In my last one, I suggested few configuration guide but I realize it might not be sufficient for a beginner like you. That’s why I’m sharing this essential WordPress setup guide which will help you setup WordPress blog in next few minutes.
Most of the below steps are mandatory & you should configure it before start publishing on WordPress.
Easy WordPress Setup for beginner’s with screenshots:
The very first thing you need to do is login to your WordPress dashboard. You can login to the dashboard by typing domain.com/wp-admin in your browser. Replace domain.com with your domain name, use your WordPress credentials & login to your dashboard. Your dashboard would look similar to this:
Now, let’s speed up the process & setup WordPress as fast as we could. Follow the steps mentioned (Refer to screenshots) & you will be up & running with your WordPress blog setup quickly.
Delete default posts & pages:
When you install WordPress for the first time, it creates a default hello world post & page. Click on posts section & delete the default post.
Similarly, click on pages section & delete the default pages.
There are few settings which are essential for you to ensure the proper working of WordPress. The settings which I’m going to share will help you make your WordPress blog search engine friendly & it will also be optimized for performance.
Click on Settings> General
& here you can configure your site title, description. Most important setup your time-zone as it will save a lot of headache in future.
Add WordPress Ping services under writing:
One of the great features of WordPress is the ping feature which makes it so powerful over a website. The ping feature notifies everyone (Search engines, directories, bots), whenever you publish a new blog post or page. WordPress have a default ping service which is good but you can extend the feature by adding more ping services. Here you can find the updated ping services.
This is another important WordPress setup feature that you should configure right now. Discussion settings control the comment feature of WordPress. As it is, you would be using Akismet plugin (It blocks spam comment), & with a proper discussion settings, you should be able to make your WordPress blog more solid. You can copy my settings as shown in above image.
This is the last setup which you would be doing today & this is also the most essentials settings for any new WordPress installation. I’m sure you know that WordPress is SEO friendly but there are settings you need to make to outrank your competitor & drive more traffic from search engine. Permalink is one of those features which is crucial for SEO success.
By default WordPress Permalink is not SEO friendly & with on click you can make it. Go to settings> Permalinks & select the option which says post name to make your WordPress site permalink search engine friendly.
This is also the best & most used permalink structure for WordPress. With this, your WordPress setup is done & in the next part of this tutorial, I will share some more tips & guides for using WordPress on cPanel hosting like Inmotion.
